A male driver allegedly assaulted a female motorist after a minor collision at Birchanger Green services on Saturday evening (Jan 5).

According to Essex Police, the victim, in her 60s, was involved in a shunt with another car on the approach to the M11 facilities on the outskirts of Bishop’s Stortford.

She gestured for her car to be followed into the petrol station so that they could exchange details.

The driver of the other car, a silver Volvo, did so, but once they were both out of their cars the man in the Volvo allegedly assaulted her by grabbing her. He then left in an unknown direction.

He is described as a white man, potentially in his 50s. He was bald, wore glasses and, according to the victim, spoke with an eastern European accent. The incident occurred between 7.45pm and 8pm on Saturday.

Essex Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone who saw the assault, or who may have been driving past at the time and has dashcam footage, is asked to call the Uttlesford local policing team on 101, quoting the crime reference number 42/2860/19. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
