Airport adds quiet seating space for Stansted passengers
Stansted Airport has added 550 new seats for departing passengers, taking its capacity from more than 1,300 to almost 1,900.
As well as creating an extra 164 in the main lounge area by installing new furniture, taking the total number of seats there to about 1,500, it has added 386 in the form of three new areas.
There are 208 seats in a quiet area away from shops, TVs and passing passengers; another new area on the way to the Satellite 3 gates offers 160 seats; and a family area with smaller, colourful, child-friendly benching for groups travelling with youngsters has 18 seats.
In addition, the main departure lounge has 436 new USB and USC charging points, and ‘leaf lamps’ around the area provide ambient lighting while helping to absorb sound using 'felt foliage’.
Linsey Miller, head of terminal operations, said: “We're delighted with the fresh look of the main departures lounge and, most importantly, I’m confident passengers will also be very pleased with the changes we've made.
"It has updated the area and offers much-needed additional seating and device charging points, while the curved design and layout of the furniture means passengers feel a sense of space while seated.
“The quiet seating area is something new we’re pleased to be able to offer. This is on a lower-level floor with no shops or TVs and no one passing through, so it's a calmer environment for those who may find that more appealing than the busy central areas.”
