Stansted doctors' surgery has been nominated for an award and villagers are being encouraged to vote if it is to proceed to the next round.

Janice McDonald, chair of the Patient Participation Group, said the Castle Maltings' practice had received an anonymous nomination in the General Practice Awards' People's Choice category.

And she believes staff deserve recognition for their efforts in "turning the surgery around" to better serve the needs of villagers.

"We now have a new surgery building, it is very innovative and staff are working hard to bring all sorts of new ideas, so we are really quite proud of the way things are going," she said.

"They keep trying to improve all the time and in a climate where money is tight and surgeries are struggling across the country, Stansted is doing well considering all these difficulties."

Mrs McDonald welcomed "as much support as possible" for the awards.
