Reverend Gill Hulme getting in the saddle for epic coast-to-coast charity bike ride

Two worthy Bishop’s Stortford causes are to benefit from a church minister’s long-distance cycling challenge.

The Rev Gill Hulme from the Bishop’s Stortford Methodist Church in South Street will be riding coast to coast, starting at Lowestoft in Suffolk and finishing at St David’s – Britain’s smallest city – in Pembrokeshire on the most westerly tip of Wales.

The 400-mile journey will take her around a week to complete. She plans to set off tomorrow (Thursday).

Gill will be riding solo without any back-up support, and will stay overnight at various locations.

By taking on the mammoth ride, she wants to generate donations for the Methodist church’s redevelopment scheme, an £800,000 project to make the South Street place of worship more accessible to disabled visitors and church members.

The second beneficiary of her challenge will be Kickstart, which provides help for people looking to get back into work from its base at the church.

Church administrator Lynn Graseman said: “Many of us at BSMC think she’s a little crazy for attempting this but are also very proud of her. We hope that people will get on board and sponsor her.”

To make a contribution, hard copies of sponsorship forms are available in the church bookstall or you can visit her online donation page.
