Stortford Cubs raise cash for Centrepoint charity
Bishop's Stortford's Silver Leys Cub pack braved a night in the open with a charity sleep-out.
The hardy group of 15 eight to ten year-olds and their two leaders slept in makeshift cardboard shelters in the grounds of their hut on Hadham Road to raise cash for Centrepoint.
It helps homeless young people by providing them with accommodation and support in getting into education or finding employment.
The Cubs have been working toward their World Challenge Badge, which includes completing an activity that benefits the community.
Gary Newberry, group Scout leader said:"While we could never recreate what it must be like to be homeless, the night sleeping out with none of the comforts of home helped the children reflect on what it must be like. The children did a fantastic job raising money for Centrepoint's important work and we know it will go towards helping young homeless people."
Centrepoint's events and community fundraising officer, Pete Walters said:"Sleep Out is a thought-provoking experience that everyone should try. It doesn't try to replicate the terror of spending a night on the streets with nowhere else to go - but the Cubs will have felt some of the cold and discomfort that some homeless young people have to endure."
