St Michael’s C of E (VA) Primary School has received £1,000 from a Stortford Fields housebuilder to help renovate a classroom.

The school in Apton Road, Bishop's Stortford, got the funding as part of Persimmon Homes Essex’s Community Champions initiative.

St Michael's had been fundraising since September for a new floor for its early years classroom and has now reached its target thanks to the developer.

Clare Hughes, from the primary, said: “We've been working really hard this year to raise funds for our school and we’re thrilled that Persimmon Homes has stepped in with a boost of £1,000.

“We've raised more than £2,000 thanks to a comedy night, wine and cheese evening and cake sales. Our pupils and PTA have been doing everything they can to help pay for our new flooring, which we’re sure our reception children will love.

“As residents of Bishop’s Stortford, we've been watching with excitement as Persimmon’s new Stortford Fields development takes shape and are thrilled they are happy to help out in the community in this way.”

Managing director Phil Standen said: “We love to support good causes in the areas in which we build and St Michael’s C of E Primary are a clear example of that.”
