Ware 10k: Team from Bishop's Stortford-based funeral firm Daniel Robinson and Sons raise £1,800 for Isabel Hospice
A team of runners from funeral directors Daniel Robinson and Sons raised more than £1,800 for Isabel Hospice by completing the Ware 10k.
Three of the 13 who took part in the run on Sunday July 4 were from the independent family firm's funeral parlour in South Street, Bishop's Stortford, with Trevor Fox first across the finish line with an impressive time of 51 minutes. The two other runners from Stortford were Tina Horncastle and Dagmara Fryer.
Assistant funeral manager Louise Griffiths said that staff were always up for a challenge for a good cause.
“A huge effort has been made over the last few weeks as the team members built up their running distances," she said. "For some of the team this was completely new and they've shown great dedication in training for the race.”
Following Trevor was Terry Wright, from the Halstead branch, with a time of 54 minutes. The other finishers included staff from Harlow, Saffron Walden, Braintree and Waltham Abbey.
Tina brought up the rear – with a VIP escort, the chairman of the Ware Tens – in 1hr 45min. For personal reasons, Dagmara completed her own 10k a week earlier, finishing in 1hr 3min.
Their efforts will help Isabel Hospice continue to provide its free specialist care and support to those living with a terminal or life-limiting illness, including heart failure or respiratory disease, neurological conditions, such as motor neurone disease, as well as cancer, across eastern Herts.
