January trial for Bishop's Stortford man Wayne Rogers accused of sex attack on man while 'posing as female'

The case of a Bishop's Stortford man charged with offences of assault by penetration and sexual assault in the street has been listed for trial in the week beginning January 11, 2021.

Wayne Rogers, 43, of Plaw Hatch Close, appeared at St Albans Crown Court last Wednesday (September 2) for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

He was charged on May 27 after an incident in the South Road area in the early hours of Saturday December 21, 2019, when a man in his 30s was attacked after a night out.

Rogers was arrested after a warrant was executed at a property in Plaw Hatch Close on April 15. He is also charged with possession of a class A drug.

On June 8, Hertfordshire Constabulary issued a further appeal for information.

Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire major crime unit, said: "This has been a highly complex and challenging investigation from the outset.

"We are now in a position to confirm that our enquiries have led us to believe the alleged suspect was a male who was posing as a female at the time of the incident."
