Man arrested following attempted robberies in Bishop’s Stortford

Police have arrested a 36-year-old Bishop's Stortford man on suspicion of committing two attempted armed robberies in the town on the same weekend in December.

Hertfordshire Constabulary made the announcement at about 5.30pm today (Monday, January 7). It is not known when the man was arrested.

At 10pm on Saturday, December 15, a man entered the Lee Garden takeaway in Elizabeth Road, on the Havers estate, and demanded money. When the victims refused, he walked out.

At 7.16pm the following evening (Sunday, December 16), police received a call reporting an attempted robbery on a bus in Villiers-sur-Marne Avenue, Thorley Park.

A man had boarded the bus and demanded money. When the victims refused, he got off.

In both cases, the man was reported to have had a gun. Nobody was harmed in either incident.

The arrested man remains in police custody.
