David Francis, a member of the Stortford Nature group on Facebook, shares his pictures with Bishop's Stortford Independent readers

David Francis is the star of this instalment of a regular series showcasing pictures taken by members of the Stortford Nature group on Facebook...

David Francis, who was born and bred in Bishop's Stortford, frequently sends photos to the Indie of the nature he captures from his vantage point, living in a boat on the River Stort.

"It still amazes me the beauty we have all around us," he said. "With Stortford constantly expanding and some parts unrecognisable from when I was a boy, there's still beauty to be found in the simplest of things in the most unexpected places in the town. From the rose in my late mother's garden to kingfishers seen along the river, even in town.

"And we're not far from Hatfield Forest – a nice walk there is very possible.

"I think a lot of people have discovered the towpath and its views and wildlife during the coronavirus lockdown. Thorley Wash is nearby with its water voles and, if you're very lucky, its barn owls."
