Police alerted after Birchwood High School pupils and staff challenge man taking photos

Police were called after a man was spotted taking photos of students on their lunch break at Birchwood High School in Bishop's Stortford.

Hertfordshire Constabulary was contacted at around 1.30pm on Wednesday (April 1).

A spokeswoman said: "It was reported that a man appeared to be taking photos of students from outside the school gate.

"The man was verbally challenged by both pupils and staff and subsequently left the area. Further enquiries are due to be carried out."

Dr Chris Ingate, head of the Parsonage Lane secondary, added: "A small group of our key worker students were at lunch – socially distancing, of course – and a man was seen walking along the public bridleway to Birchanger Woods.

"The kids said to the supervising member of staff he took a photo. The member of staff approached the man and he deleted the photo. We reported it to the police."
