Bishop's Stortford students flying high in Stansted Airport book
Students at the Herts and Essex High School in Bishop's Stortford contributed to a new travel activity book developed by Stansted Airport.
The volume, released as part of World Book Day celebrations, includes illustrations, poems, and short stories by pupils from the Warwick road secondary and youngsters in Chelmsford, North Weald and Hoddesdon.
The second edition of the London Stansted Little Book of Travel Tales follows a competition launched for World Book Day 2023 by the airport's Aerozone education centre.
The challenge was open to schools within a 15–mile radius of the airport, with 17 winners having their work published covering topics related to aircraft, flying, holidays abroad, and working at airports.
The book also includes a range of fun puzzles and activities aimed at keeping children entertained as they travel through the airport on their holidays.
Alex Smith, education manager at Stansted, said: "The London Stansted Little Book of Travel Tales is the result of a competition we launched during the autumn term last year, engaging local schoolchildren in a fun and creative way.
"We received so many outstanding entries from some very talented young people, which made picking the winners really difficult. All the entries, stories, poems and drawings were chosen to keep children entertained as they travel through London Stansted on their holidays.
"This competition is just one example of the work we do to provide new and exciting educational opportunities for local young people, from formal education through to helping people find a job within the airport and the surrounding area."
The first edition of the book was published in 2019. Copies of the latest will be handed out to children in the terminal over the Easter holidays.
