Students at The Christian School, Takeley, donated groceries to the Bishop's Stortford Foodbank as part of their harvest festival celebrations.

The charity, which helps families and individuals living in crisis from its base at the Methodist church in South Street, provided a shopping list of its most in-demand items for staff and students who brought them to a special assembly where a presentation about its work was shown to pupils.

After a Bible reading from the book of Deuteronomy, teacher Vicki Sweeney talked about how the Christian faith teaches people to leave their surplus for the poor and hungry.

During the special assembly, junior school pupils also showed off their harvest-themed artwork including fingerprint trees, leaf prints and collages of autumn colours.

The independent school at Brewers End was founded in 1989 to educate youngsters aged between seven and 16.
