Ten Avanti Grange students ‘Speak Out’ in school’s first performance in front of parents

Ten students of Avanti Grange courageously took to the stage for the school’s first ever performance to parents.

The Stortford Fields secondary’s Speak Out house competition saw the youngsters address a live audience on a diverse range of topics from feminism to global conflict.

A school spokesman said: “Their presentations showcased not only their knowledge but also their ability to articulate complex ideas with poise and passion.

“The evening was a whirlwind of passion, talent and dedication, reflecting the hard work students invested in their speeches.”

Although only 10 students took the stage, the selection process was highly competitive, with many more from Years 7 and 8 eager to participate. Those not chosen had the chance to present their speeches during school assemblies throughout the remainder of the term.

The spokesman added: “Heart-warming reflections from attending parents encapsulated the event’s impact. They highlighted the diversity and depth of the speeches, noting the students’ professional and enthusiastic delivery. This feedback underscores the high level of preparation and dedication students brought to the competition.

“Other parents observed the immense courage displayed by the students, empathising with those who were nervous and expressing deep respect for a young lady who returned to the stage despite initial nerves.

“This moment of perseverance is a testament to the supportive and resilient environment we strive to create at Avanti Grange.”
