A family who run a Chinese takeaway in Bishop's Stortford were burgled while they were trading.
An intruder broke in to the China City family's first-floor flat in Church Street while they were cooking and taking orders downstairs.
The incident happened last Thursday evening (Feb 25) between 7.30pm and 9.30pm.
The burglar used a ladder to climb in through an open window 30ft off the ground before ransacking the flat and stealing Chinese yuan and jewellery worth £700. They climbed back out and fled, leaving the ladder behind.
The victims only discovered the break-in when they saw the ladder outside and contacted police.
