Taylor Wimpey launches consultation on new Harlow and Gilston Garden Town settlement

Community consultation will begin this month as Taylor Wimpey shapes the design of a new 1,500-home village in East Herts.

The development is part of plans for seven settlements delivering 10,000 properties as part of the wider Harlow and Gilston Garden Town project to build more than 23,000 dwellings.

East Herts Council granted planning permission for Places for People’s six villages and Taylor Wimpey’s outline scheme earlier this year.

Jonathan Locke, senior planning manager for Taylor Wimpey, said: “We are delighted to launch our consultation around the detail of the Village 7 emerging masterplan proposals and to start the next stage in the exciting delivery of a new sustainable and innovative community.

“The proposals will bring significant benefits to both new and existing communities and we are excited to make the pioneering vision for this new community a reality.

“We will be holding two rounds of events to give members of the community and other interested groups the chance to help develop what the future Village 7 will be like.

“The first round will focus more on the key themes of the development and the locations of various facilities within the village.

“The second round will be the chance to see how we have responded to feedback and to help refine the designs.

“We hope people will be able to come to join us for one of our exhibitions or workshops, or see a presentation and ask the team questions via our webinar. We look forward to meeting as many people as possible and finding out what they value in the future Village 7 community.”

The exhibitions will take place on Saturday, October 28, from 10am to 3pm and Tuesday, October 31, from 11.30am and 6.45pm, at Gilston and Eastwick Village Hall, Eastwick Road.

As well as the seven Gilston villages to the north, Harlow and Gilston Garden Town encompasses Harlow and includes new strategic sites to the east, known as East Harlow; the south, known as Latton Priory; and the west, known as the Water Lane area.

Around 16,000 new homes are set to be delivered by 2033 with building set to continue to 2050 and beyond.
