A Stortford gym owner faced his fears to raise £2300 for a mental health charity.

Keith Mullings, who runs Koru gym at Peek Business Park, organised a skydive in aid of CALM, a charity dedicated to preventing male suicide.

For Keith, the motivation to support CALM was clear: “I was diagnosed with severe clinical depression just over 10 years ago, and so mental health is something that is close to my heart. I wanted to support a small charity, and CALM fitted the bill perfectly. We also subsequently found out that CALM supported one of our member’s family last year when his brother committed suicide.”

Keith took the plunge alongside his sons, Jack and George, and Koru members Richard Hutson, Chris Crow, Dave Allen, Penny Brooks, Dylan Ellis and Oliver Bennett.

On his decision to complete the stomach-churning feat, Keith said: “The problem with doing charity events is that you’re always asking the same people for sponsorship, so wanted to give them something for their money rather than just supporting us. Seeing as I’m scared of heights and can’t even climb a ladder, jumping out of a plane at 12,000 ft seemed the ideal choice! It’s something that I always thought would be an amazing experience but was always too scared to try.”
