The Cinnamon Trust give dog lovers an op-paw-tunity to help

A charity that helps elderly or terminally ill pet owners wants to sniff out a dog lover to care for a five-year-old Elsenham pooch.

Volunteers at the Cinnamon Trust hope to find a cynophilist to step in and take Lily the Jack Russell for regular walks, as her owner is no longer able to do so.

The Cinnamon Trust is a national charity that helps pet owners who are elderly or in the latter stages of a terminal illness by offering all kinds of animal care.

Many such owners become very worried about their ability to care for their pets as their health deteriorates, feeling that their only option is to rehome them. This is where the Cinnamon Trust steps in.

Volunteers enable them to stay together for as long as possible by walking dogs for housebound owners, fostering pets when their owners are taken into hospital and by cleaning out litter trays or bird cages.

Sally Collins, the Cinnamon Trust’s appeal administrator, explained: “We urgently need volunteers to help a resident of Elsenham with some support for their lovely dog Lily, who would like to go for a good walk.

“We seek to keep owner and pet together for as long as possible with the help of a national network of volunteers who assist when day-to-day care poses a problem.

“Our aim is to relieve the owners of any worry concerning the welfare of their pets both during and after their own lifetime, making us unique amongst charities.”

The Cinnamon Trust says that pets benefit the wellbeing of elderly owners; for many old folk who live on their own, their pets are their only companion.

The charity’s founder, Averil Jarvis, knows how special the relationship between pets and their owners can be – the charity is named in memory of her beloved Corgi, Cinnamon, who died aged 17 just as Averil was developing the organisation in 1985.
