The Indie's Christmas Dinner Appeal: Help us give the lonely elderly a festive meal to savour
We're launching the Indie's Christmas Dinner Appeal, in aid of Bishop's Stortford woman Jo Gill's magnificent initiative, The Welbeloved Club - and we need YOU to help us give 90 senior citizens who endure social isolation an unforgettable festive feast.
Once a month, Welbeloved Club founder Jo Gill, her mum and chief cook Gill and their team of voluntary helpers provide a Sunday roast lunch for up to 85 elderly people in the Bishop’s Stortford and Sawbridgeworth area who feel lonely.
For its December gathering on Sunday the 16th, the club will be laying on a traditional festive spread of turkey and all the trimmings, followed by Christmas pudding, mince pies and brandy sauce – and with YOUR help, we want the £500 lunch to be on us.
For the Indie’s Christmas Dinner Appeal in aid of the Welbeloved Club, we want our readers and Facebook followers to buy and donate an item, or items, from the 200 or so on our shopping list.
Once you’ve chosen what you want to donate and have bought it, we want you to deliver it to one of three drop-off points, including the Indie office at 12 North Street.
The lunch is on the 16th, so we want the fresh food items – like the meat, vegetables and dairy products – dropped off on Thursday 13 or Friday, December 14.
The dried cupboard goods and items like crackers, tinsel and Christmas hats can be donated from today.
All the details are included in the form embedded in this article.
The Welbeloved Club is buying the turkeys from Stephens Butchers in Snowley Parade on the Parsonage estate as a thank-you for the shop’s support throughout the year and has already bought the Christmas puddings and cranberry sauce. If you would like to donate money instead of an item from the list, this will be put towards purchase of the turkeys.
If you have any problems, please call the Indie on 01279 216515 or email email@example.com.
