The one that didn’t get away! Newport man David Keenan was wearing electronic tag when he stole fishing equipment worth £10,000

A Newport man wearing an electronic tag was tracked by police as he stole fishing equipment worth £10,000.

David Keenan, 38, of Gaces Acre, admitted breaking into a shed in Peaslands Road, Saffron Walden, on August 24 last year when he appeared before Chelmsford magistrates on Tuesday February 4. He pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary.

The GPS monitoring tag enabled Essex Police to monitor Keenan’s movements and, subsequently, provided clear evidence of his presence at the scene of the crime, the court heard.

Magistrates committed him to Chelmsford Crown Court for sentencing during the week commencing March 10.
