Three men from Harlow, Huntingdon and Chatteris arrested near Sawbridgeworth on suspicion of burglary and handling stolen goods released on bail

Three men arrested after police swooped on their vans in fields near Sawbridgeworth last week have been released on bail while investigations continue.

The trio, aged 25, 27 and 33, come from Harlow and from Huntingdon and Chatteris in Cambridgeshire.

A call from a member of the public led to police arresting them and recovering suspected stolen property last Wednesday (August 7) at around 6.30pm.

The caller said that people in vans were acting suspiciously in Parsonage Lane, between Sawbridgeworth and Green Tye.

Intervention response officers and neighbourhood policing team colleagues attended and carried out a search, with assistance from drone operators from the rural operational support team.

Two vans – one of them bearing the livery of a Cambridgeshire-based window cleaning company – were discovered parked in a field.

Officers found lawnmowers, jewellery and cash inside, all of which were suspected as being stolen.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of non-dwelling burglary and handling stolen goods. They have been released on conditional police bail until October while investigations continue.

The vans were also seized.

A Hertfordshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: “We’d like to thank the member of public who reported this to us – your calls really do make a difference.”
