Police investigate after naked man hiding in bushes in wood emerges in front of two girls in Bishop's Stortford

Two girls in their early teens were left shaken after a naked man hiding in bushes emerged in front of them in Bishop's Stortford.

The incident happened in the woods near the cricket club, between Cricketfield Lane and Dane O'Coys Road, on Wednesday afternoon, the hottest day of the year so far. Police were called at 3.47pm.

A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "It was reported that a naked man had emerged from the bushes, in front of two teenage girls. The girls ran off and police were called.

"Officers attended the area and conducted a search but the man was not traced. Enquiries are continuing at this time.

"Police are taking the matter seriously and members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity, or similar incidents, straight away."

The mother of one of the girls posted about the incident on Facebook.

She said: “My 14-year-old daughter and her friend were approached over by the cricket fields in the top woody field, top left turning off 'Rhododendron Way' (nearly at Dane O’Coys), by a naked man this afternoon.

"He appeared out of bushes, just a few metres from them. The girls ran away, are unharmed but shaken by the incident.

"Police were informed and as it was the second call they’d had regarding such sightings today were already dispatched and on their way to the area. Area search but he’d already gone."
