Virtual visiting for patients at Princess Alexandra NHS Trust

More news, no ads

The NHS trust that runs the hospitals in Bishop's Stortford, Harlow and Epping has set up a Virtual Visiting service for patients' family and friends.

The video calls are taking place as the NHS continues to manage the demands of Covid-19 and while restrictions at Bishop's Stortford's Herts and Essex, Princess Alexandra in Harlow and St Margaret's in Epping remain in place.

Each patient is permitted one visitor for up to 45 minutes a day. It must be the same visitor for the duration of their stay and must be booked in advance.

However, family and friends can arrange a 10-minute video call by emailing paht.virtualvisiting@nhs.net. Contact the Virtual Visiting service on 01279 962661 for help between 9am and noon all week.

There is also the Message to a Loved One service via email to paht.messagetoalovedone@nhs.net or by calling 01279 962661 between 9am and noon all week. A staff member or volunteer transcribes the message and it is delivered to patients in the afternoon.

Lisa Thurley, the Virtual Visiting and Message to a Loved One co-ordinator for Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT), said: "We understand how much it means to people to stay in contact with their loved one whilst they are in hospital.

"It can be a difficult time for family members, friends and our patients. However, a phone call or message can help to keep their spirits up and put a smile on their face.

"Our fantastic team are working hard to ensure that all of our patients can stay in touch with their relatives."
