Volunteer knitters help save premature babies in Hertfordshire and Essex
Premature babies in Hertfordshire and Essex are being kept warm on their way to hospital thanks to hats made by volunteer knitters.
The infants often suffer from hypothermia as they lose heat quickly after birth. Keeping them warm is vital, but standard baby hats are too big.
Thanks to volunteer knitters, Daimon Wheddon, regional maternity lead at the East of England Ambulance Service, has made small hats available on all its ambulances.
Daimon said: “This project will greatly benefit our premature baby patients. It keeps them warm on the way to the hospital and helps us provide optimal care.”
