TUBS team tackle Birchanger Wood for September clean-up

Birchanger Wood is spick and span this week thanks to volunteers from TUBS (Tidy Up Bishop's Stortford).

A group of around 30 socially distanced litter pickers helped to clear the ancient coppiced woodland of rubbish on Saturday (Sept 12).

They included Herts county councillor Colin Woodward, who represents the Stortford West division, and a team from East Herts Green Party.

TUBS co-ordinator Ian Hudson, who won the John Turner Memorial Award at the 2019 Indies community awards for his work with the group over the past decade, said that more than 40 bags of refuse were collected.

Every other month a group of local residents give a couple of hours on a Saturday morning to help make the town a cleaner place. Ian said: "It's amazing how gratifying it can be to leave an area cleaner than before."
