A dedicated fund for serving and retired members of the Armed Forces in Bishop's Stortford has been boosted by Waitrose shoppers.

Denise Hudson, the chairman of the Bishop's Stortford branch of the Royal British Legion, was presented with a cheque for £462 by Tracy Whitfield.

Tracy co-ordinates the Northgate End supermarket's Community Matters green token scheme, whereby shoppers 'vote' on how a monthly £1,000 pot should be distributed among three local causes.

Denise said: "This money is to be put into a dedicated fund to be used for the benefit of the serving and retired members of the Armed Forces in our local community.

"I would like to thank both Waitrose for allowing the Legion to take part in their green token collection scheme and Waitrose customers for their great support."
