Wayne Rogers in court charged with sex offences against another man while dressed as a woman

A Bishop's Stortford man has been remanded in custody charged with five sexual offences following an incident in the town centre.

Detectives have been investigating the incident in which a man was assaulted in the early hours of Sunday September 11 by a man dressed as a woman – and they are appealing for anyone else who has been approached in the same way to contact them.

Wayne Rogers, 46, of Plaw Hatch Close, was arrested on Friday. There was a heavy police presence in the close, on the Parsonage estate, and a car was taken away for examination.

Rogers appeared at Hatfield Remand Court on Saturday morning (November 5) and was remanded in custody to appear at St Albans Crown Court on December 5.

He is charged with assault by penetration, sexual assault on a male, causing a male to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity and two counts of causing a male (13 or over) to engage in penetrative sexual activity.

Det Insp Justine Jenkins, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire major crime unit, who is leading the investigation, said: “I would appeal to anyone who has any information about the incident, or anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area, to please contact us.

“I would also ask anyone who may have been approached in similar circumstances to make contact with my team. Please be reassured any information will be treated with the utmost sensitivity and in the strictest confidence.”
