Two lanes closed on M11 between Stortford and Harlow for emergency roadworks

Two lanes were closed on the M11 between Bishop's Stortford and Harlow on Friday morning (Jan 15) for emergency roadworks.

A Highways England spokeswoman said bad weather had caused damage to the carriageway and lanes one and two on the southbound stretch between junctions 8 and 7 would be closed until lunchtime. Lane three remained open.

She added that lanes one and two would be closed on the northbound section between Harlow and Stortford on Friday afternoon for emergency works, also caused by road surface deterioration.

A rolling roadblock would be held to switch over the lanes and it was hoped the motorway would be fully open again by Friday evening.

The M11 has been subject to ongoing drainage renewal works between junctions 7 and 8. Also, works to renew lighting at the junction 8 roundabout at Birchanger Green began last month and was expected to last 15 weeks.

Contractors will be working from 8pm to 6am on week nights for the lighting renewal, subject to weather conditions. Most of the project will require only lane closures, however full carriageway shutdowns will be required for a few shifts. The project is set to finish by April 15.
