A woman in her 20s was killed when the car in which she was a passenger overturned on the road between Thaxted and Saffron Walden on Friday night (December 4).

The driver, a 25-year-old man from the Dunmow area, was taken to hospital and later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He has been released under investigation and inquiries are continuing. Essex Police is appealing for witnesses and dashcam and CCTV footage.

The man and woman were travelling in a blue Nissan Micra which overturned on the B184 Thaxted Road at Howlett End, near Wimbish, just after 9pm on Friday. No other vehicle was involved.

The woman died at the scene. Specially trained officers are supporting her family.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: "We are looking to identify two members of the public who assisted in helping to remove the people from the car. It is believed they left the scene after emergency services arrived before their details could be obtained.

"We'd also like to speak to any drivers who were in the area at the time and have dashcam footage of a blue Nissan Micra, or anyone living in the area who has CCTV."
