Isabel Hospice shop in Sawbridgeworth decorates window to celebrate Sir Rod Stewart’s 80th birthday
Legendary rocker Rod Stewart may not want to talk about it, but staff at a Sawbridgeworth charity shop were keen to celebrate his 80th birthday.
The team at the Isabel Hospice shop in Bell Street appear to believe Sir Rod wears it well, so they dedicated their shop window to the evergreen chart-topper who reached the landmark age on Friday (Jan 10).
Manager Debbie Dyball told the Indie they “went down the Scottish route” with lots of tartan and a nod to Rod’s favourite football team, Celtic.
They also had his CDs and autobiography on sale, and a staff member baked a special birthday cake.
“The public loved it,” said Debbie. “It was just a bit of fun and everybody loved it.”
Sir Rod, who lives on his sprawling estate in Sheering Lower Road, is often seen in the town, taking time to chat to locals and sign autographs.
Although Debbie said that so far he had not popped into the hospice shop, when she has met him he has always been “so lovely”.
There was no chance of the local celeb seeing the hospice shop’s efforts as he is currently on a cruise of the Caribbean with his family to mark his birthday. But Debbie is hopeful that when he hears about their tribute he might pop in.
