Standon Calling promises creature comforts for man's best friend

TV vet and This Morning favourite Dr Scott Miller will share his canine knowledge at Standon Calling's famous dog show.

The pooch pageant is an integral part of the four-day music and comedy festival, which returns to the grounds of country house Standon Lordship, six miles from Bishop's Stortford, between July 22 and 25.

Standon Calling will back up its claim to be the country's most dog-friendly festival by partnering with pet food brand Barking Heads.

There will be a dedicated stay-and-play area perfect for good doggos of all sizes, and as well as the chance to sample some of Barking Heads' range there will be talks from Australian Dr Miller before the finale of the Standon Calling Dog Show on the Sunday, when canine competitors will vie for the title of Dog with the Waggiest Tail and Looks Most Like Owner among many others.

With prizes up for grabs and the prospect of star guests popping by – including singer Lewis Capaldi in 2019 – the organisers are confident no other festival comes close to matching the bark of Standon Calling 2021.

Julia Anderton, marketing manager at Barking Heads, said: "Here at Barking Heads HQ we're pretty bonkers about our pups, so we're really excited to be sponsoring the fantastic Standon Calling, the UK's leading dog-friendly festival.

"Our four-legged friends are part of the family so shouldn't miss out on summertime fun. Bring your pooches along to this year's event as we'll have plenty to keep them as entertained as you, including a special guest appearance from our ambassador and TV vet Dr Scott Miller."

The festival will be headlined by Bastille, Primal Scream and Hot Chip with support from acts including Craig David Presents TS5, De La Soul, Sister Sledge, Everything Everything, Sophie Ellis-Bextor featuring Sink The Pink, Mystery Jets, Akala, Ðadi Freyr, Holly Humberstone, Porridge Radio and Squid.

The comedy bill is topped by Ed Gamble and Zoe Lyons, and there will also be Horrible Histories (Live), the Dick & Dom DJ Battle and Circus Shows from The Flying Seagull Project.

The family-friendly fun also includes Woodland Tribe and their adventure playground, the Sillyolympics and a dip in the built-in swimming pool.

A limited number of weekend and day tickets are still available, including family camping and packages, from standon-calling.com.
