St James' Park estate: Two new crossings planned for Whittington Way

Hertfordshire County Council is introducing two new crossings to make Whittington Way safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

The highways authority has set out its plans for the zebra and toucan to serve residents of developer Countryside Properties' new 750-home Bishop's Stortford South estate, St James' Park, as well as a relocated Bishop's Stortford High School.

The zebra will be at the top of Whittington Way, near the Thorley Park estate roundabout, while the toucan will be further east.

A toucan crossing enables bicycles to be ridden across; since pedestrians and cyclists use it together, "toucan" (two can) was chosen. A zebra crossing gives priority to pedestrians.
