Top scorer Jake Cass has said he is "gutted" after Bishop's Stortford parted company with the striker.

The forward is the Blues' leading marksman this term with 15 goals to his name having returned to the club for a second spell in the summer.

Stortford announced ahead of their 2-0 defeat at Hornchurch in the Pitching In Isthmian League, Premier Division on Saturday that Cass had left the club.

In a statement, the Blues said: "Manager Steve Smith has announced that the club and Jake Cass have decided to amicably part company.

"The striker joined the Blues for a second spell in the summer. We would like to thank Jake for his services and wish him all the very best for the future."

But on Twitter, Cass said he had not wanted to leave the R&D Advisors UK Stadium as the side look to get promoted.

"I'd just like to place on record that I have been released and did not want to leave the club," said Cass.

"I'm absolutely gutted, but such is life/football. Thank you to everyone involved."
