Bishop’s Stortford Cricket Club sign former Zimbabwe Test all-rounder Roy Kaia for 2024 Saracens Herts League season

Bishop’s Stortford have signed an all-rounder with Test Match experience ahead of the new Saracens Hertfordshire League season.

Roy Kaia will join up with his new Cricketfield Lane team-mates as they aim to build on last summer’s fifth-place finish in the Premiership.

The 32-year-old right-hander, who bats in the top order and bowls off-break, has racked up more than 6,000 runs and 180 wickets across three formats since making his domestic debut in 2009.

Kaia was called up to the Zimbabwe Test team in 2021 and top-scored for his country with 48 on his debut against Pakistan in Harare. He went on to feature on two more occasions in the five-day format.

He has played in England before having had spells with Cumbrian side Haverigg and Bognor Regis as well as spending time at Danish club Svanholm.

Stortford should also be welcoming Australian batsman Alex Ross to Cricketfield Lane for the second half of the summer.

The player nicknamed the sweepologist has featured in more than 100 Big Bash matches in his home country for the likes of Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder.

Ross is also no stranger to English soil having previously played for Reigate Priory in the Surrey Championship.
