Vibhor Yadav hits 197 not out in record-breaking victory for Sawbridgeworth against Letchworth Garden City in Saracens Hertfordshire League
Records tumbled on the opening day of the Saracens Hertfordshire League season as Sawbridgeworth kicked off their Division One campaign with a comprehensive 148-run victory at Letchworth Garden City, writes Richard White.
Vibhor Yadav led the way with a sensational innings of 197 not out – the highest individual score recorded by a Sawbridgeworth player in a league game.
He easily surpassed Daniel Hull's previous best of 168 not out, which came against Hoddesdon on the opening day of the 2006 season, as he struck 16 fours and 10 sixes from just 135 balls.
Yadav shared a third-wicket partnership of 122 with Amit Gupta (59) – one of three league debutants for Sawbo – as the visitors racked up 324-6 from their 50 overs, which was also the first team's highest league team score of all time.
In reply, the home side were all out for 176 in 43.5 overs. Left-arm spinner Danish Zaman (3-38) picked up two wickets in his first over for the club after Will Aitkenhead and David Sprittles (23) had put on 33 for the first wicket.
Sam Kendle top-scored for Letchworth with 44 as Yadav (1-20), Matt Billings (2-42), Gupta (1-13), Travis Hussain (1-20) and Michael Burrell (2-5) took the other wickets to fall.
Sawbridgeworth also progressed to round three of the Voneus National Village Cup with a hard-fought 22-run home victory over Datchworth on Sunday.
Bradley Oakes top scored with 61 as the home side were dismissed for 210 with two balls left of their 40-over allocation.
In reply, the visitors were dismissed for 189 with two overs left with Saad Naveed (3-42) and Alfie Burrell (3-45) taking three wickets apiece.
They now face an away game on Sunday May 22 at Redbourn, who they also meet at Town Fields this weekend in the league for the first time ever.
And the winners of that tie will take on either Sharnbrook & Bromham or Wheathampstead in the Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire group final before the national stage of the competition begins.
The Herts & Beds winners will take on the East Sussex group winners on June 19.
In Saracens 5B, Sawbo II got off to an emphatic start as they thrashed Flamstead by 194 runs at Town Fields.
Skipper Alex Syed scored 50 before Steve Ashman struck an unbeaten 91 as they notched 234-7 from their 50 overs.
In reply, the visitors were skittled for just 40 in 15.5 overs as Andrew Dongworth took career-best figures of 7-19. Alfie Burrell (2-19) and Nick Dale (1-2) claimed the other wickets.
