LEARN MOREA new Archbishop has taken up residence at Bishop's Stortford Golf Club.
Richard Bale, who has been a member of the Dunmow Road club for 12 years, began his reign as captain of the senior section – known as the Bishops – with a ceremonial drive-in earlier this month.
The retiree, who worked for JP Morgan as head of business resiliency for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, sent his tee shot 168 yards exactly.
It meant he achieved a longer distance than the new club and lady captains, David Brand and Janet O'Brien, at their drive-ins, although he was some way short of new junior captain Callum Gardiner's effort of 237 yards.
Bale, who, like Brand, is a West Ham United supporter, has taken over from Gary Griffiths as senior captain.
