Harry Pigram takes double wicket maiden to help Bishop’s Stortford II win at Kings Langley in Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League

Harry Pigram took a double wicket maiden to help Bishop’s Stortford II win at Kings Langley in Saracens Hertfordshire League, Division 2B on Saturday.

He finished with figures of 3-18 as the visitors triumphed by seven wickets.

Stortford chose to have a bowl after captain Will Heywood won the toss and tight bowling from Tim Smith and James Frans saw the hosts amass just 56 without loss in 23 overs.

The skipper juggled his bowlers well and their opponents were ultimately dismissed for 132.

Pigram’s three-wicket haul was added to by Will Nutt (2-17), Joseph De Souza (2-24), James Woollerson 1-6, Frans 1-19 and Hugh Williams (1-15).

The first team had another disappointing day in the Premier Division as they suffered a fourth straight defeat at home to Old Owens.

Tommy Burslem’s side were removed for just 62 after keeping their opponents to 150-8 as a first win of the campaign eluded them.

Stortford put the visitors into bat on a cold and damp morning and made a fine start as Simon Lindop (2-25) dismissed both openers early on.

Old Owens found themselves on 84-5 and then 119-8 before Chris Palmer (38no) and Rupert Kitzinger (12no) got them up to 150-8 in 50 overs.

Dom Clutterbuck picked up 2-24 and there was a wicket apiece for Matt Pike and Ben Twohig as well as run outs from the latter and Joe Burslem.

Stortford were then skittled out in 26.4 overs as the visitors triumphed by 88 runs, with only Clutterbuck (13no), batting at number nine, reaching double figures.

Callum Sykes shone with bat and ball to guide the third team to a 39-run home victory over Abridge in the Tees Herts & Essex Border League, Premier Division.

He gave the hosts a rapid start with 46 runs off 25 balls before Adrian Wacey added 48 as they posted a respectable 210 all out.

Will Hammond made 47 in reply for the visitors, but Stortford kept taking wickets with two apiece for Austin Osbourne and skipper Ruan Premadasa.

And, as the pressure mounted, Sykes secured the win with 3-17 late on as Abridge were dismissed for 171.

The fourth team went down by five wickets in a low-scoring Division One match on a wet wicket at North Weald.

Nobody could really master the conditions and Paddy Ainsworth-Ledwidge top-scored with 28 in Stortford’s 124-9 from 40 overs.

Ainsworth-Ledwidge followed it up with two wickets in the reply and Ranveer Garcha got 3-32, but North Weald reached 125-5 with three overs to spare.
