Players reunite to reminisce about Birchanger cup success from the late 1970s

Between 75 and 100 people attended a get-together to reminisce about a team’s 1970s cup-winning exploits.

Sally Tilstone organised the event to reunite some of the players who helped Birchanger beat Cossor Sports in the Bishop’s Stortford, Stansted and District Football League’s Division One Cup around 1978.

She arranged the meet-up in memory of her husband Nick Tilstone, who passed away in 2001, and it took place at Birchanger Sports & Social Club on Wednesday April 23.

Seven members of the squad were in attendance as all of the guests talked about past and present times.

The team’s success is featured in Pat Brazzier’s book The Story of the Bishop’s Stortford, Stansted and District Football League, Volume One, 1922-1989, which was published in the autumn. The write-up mentions Graham Baker, Neil Fullalove and Tony Dellow, with the trophy and medals being presented by league vice-president Les Frost.
