Birchwood High School student William Gilbank's Olympic cycling dream after taking part in National School Games at Loughborough University and Manchester Velodrome
William Gilbank is even more determined to become an Olympian after taking part in the National School Games.
The 15-year-old cyclist, who is in Year 11 at Birchwood High School in Bishop's Stortford, was selected to represent the Eastern Region at the three-day multi-sport event at Loughborough University.
Gilbank earned his place on the team during a successful season which saw him crowned Eastern Region circuit race champion as well as compete at various national competitions.
The teenager and his seven team-mates took part in street sprints, a criterium race and a 60km road race as well as enjoying a track day at the velodrome in Manchester.
And Gilbank is hoping the event will help him achieve his long-term goal of representing Team GB at an Olympic Games.
"We had an opening ceremony, three days of hard competition and a chance to meet athlete mentors, as well as having seminars on the life of a professional athlete," he said.
"It certainly has increased my desire to make it to the top."
Gilbank is kindly supported by Matt's Auto Repair Services (MARS), but is on the lookout for extra sponsors. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit gilbankracing.com to join him on his journey.
