Birchwood High School student William Gilbank wins London Youth Track League at Olympic velodrome in London
William Gilbank won the prestigious London Youth Track League at the Olympic velodrome in London.
The Birchwood High School student has followed in the footsteps of the likes of current Great Britain cyclist Ethan Vernon and World Tour professional Fred Wright.
Gilbank, 16, is on the Great Britain National School of Racing programme and dreams of one day going to the Oympics.
The London Youth Track League is run on a Thursday night at the velodrome and involves a variety of races from match sprints and points races to the exciting elimination races.
Gilbank managed to win nearly all the races and came away the convincing winner, scoring double the amount of points of the second-placed rider over the seven nights.
The teenager, who trains with Great Britain and Lee Valley Youth, has also been showing his talent on the road with recent success at the Deux Jours de Cyclopark in Gravesend, where he won the overall classification in a weekend involving four road circuit races.
Gilbank is kindly supported by Bishop's Stortford companies Matt's Auto Repairs, TLC Live Tutors and Fosters Schoolwear which have enabled him to get the very best equipment to train and race with.
