Diego De Girolamo and Jake Wright score to condemn Bishop’s Stortford to 2-0 defeat at Buxton in National League North

Bishop’s Stortford conceded twice after the break as their final away game in Vanarama National League North ended in a 2-0 defeat at Buxton on Saturday (April 13).

Diego De Girolamo and Jake Wright netted for the 14th-placed hosts as the relegated Blues suffered a 37th league loss of the campaign.

Their last game of the season - and the last in charge for stepping-down manager Steve Smith - is at home to play-off hopefuls Curzon Ashton this Saturday (April 20).

Stortford goalkeeper and captain Jack Giddens saved Max Brogan’s shot while, at the other end, Darren Foxley slipped under pressure when well placed in front of goal.

Giddens then produced a stunning reflex stop to thwart Max Hunt as the first half ended goalless.

The Bucks took a 63rd-minute lead when De Girolamo brushed off a challenge from Harry Beadle and netted with a half-volley.

And substitute Wright sealed the hosts’ victory 10 minutes from time by heading in a left-wing cross.
