Bishop’s Stortford face back-to-back games against Barwell and Hitchin Town in Southern League Premier Central relegation battle

Bishop’s Stortford have the chance to pull clear of danger with back-to-back matches against sides below them.

The Blues travel to Barwell on Saturday (March 1) before entertaining Hertfordshire rivals Hitchin Town on March 8.

Stortford are six places and seven points above the Pitching In Southern League, Premier Central relegation zone with 10 games remaining.

“We’re playing against teams that are below us and need beating,” said manager Steve Castle.

“We’ve not done great in these games, especially at home, so we need to make sure we do what we can to get positive points from every game so we can look up the table, rather than down.”

The Blues beat Spalding United 2-0 last Tuesday (February 18) before an added-time equaliser from the penalty spot denied them another victory as they drew 1-1 with Stratford Town at the weekend.

Boss Castle received a second yellow card for his protests following the award of the Bards’ spot kick in the ninth minute of additional time, with his anger stemming from the fact he believed only seven minutes were being added on.

“The disappointment wasn’t a personal one, it was for all the players who have run through treacle in the last few weeks,” said Castle. “It was an absolute sickener.”
