Bishop’s Stortford fall into Southern League Premier Central relegation zone after 2-1 defeat to Royston Town

Bishop’s Stortford were beaten 2-1 at home by Royston Town on Tuesday night (October 22) and slipped into the Pitching In Southern League, Premier Central relegation zone.

The defeat to manager Steve Castle’s former side was the Blues’ third in a row in the league - all by the same scoreline - and their fourth consecutive loss in all competitions.

They will be aiming to stop the rot when they entertain Felixstowe & Walton United in the first round of the Isuzu FA Trophy on Saturday (October 26).

Stortford, who now sit fourth from bottom, had chances to go ahead as Jaden Ogwazor had a 25-yard volley saved by Tommy Dixon-Hodge, Ryan Charles was denied and Charlie Johnson almost put through his own net from Cole Dasilva’s low cross.

Blues goalkeeper Roraigh Browne, who made his debut after joining on loan from Sky Bet Championship side Watford, produced a good save to thwart Luke Johnson’s deflected shot, but he was beaten by Charlie Johnson’s powerful header after half an hour.

And the Crows doubled their lead soon after when Luke Johnson’s effort from the left side of the box squirmed through Browne’s arms.

Stortford halved the deficit four minutes into the second half as Brad Russell sent a half-volley into the bottom corner from Kian Harness’ flick.

Browne did brilliantly to deny the visitors a third goal when he kept out Luke Johnson’s swerving shot at full stretch.

The Blues’ last two chances to equalise fell to Rashawn Scott and Ogwuazor, with both efforts being easily saved by Dixon-Hodge.
