Tosin Olufemi scores two penalties to help Bishop’s Stortford register convincing 5-0 win at Kingstonian in Isthmian Premier

Tosin Olufemi netted twice from the penalty spot to help Bishop’s Stortford register a convincing 5-0 win at Kingstonian on Saturday.

He was joined on the score sheet by Matt Johnson, Anthony Church and captain Ryan Henshaw as the Blues secured their biggest Pitching In Isthmian League, Premier Division victory of the season to move to within one point of the summit.

Steve Smith’s men are fourth in the table with 47 points, only behind third-placed Cray Wanderers on goal difference.

Enfield Town, who beat Carshalton Athletic 4-1, are the new leaders on 48 points, ahead of second-placed Aveley on goal difference.

Aveley were 2-1 winners at former leaders Hornchurch at the weekend, with the Urchins now two points off the lead in fifth place.

Stortford have a game in hand on table-topping Enfield and four games in hand on Aveley and Cray. They are due to visit 14th-placed Haringey Borough tomorrow night (Tuesday January 31) - they will go top if they win - before hosting Corinthian-Casuals, who are 20th, on Saturday (February 4).

The Blues made a fast start as Johnson opened the scoring in only the fourth minute. The midfielder, who was deputising in defence, side-footed home from the six-yard line following Darren Foxley’s corner.

Both goalkeepers were then forced into fine saves as the Blues’ Jack Giddens denied Lee Lewis before the K’s Rob Tolfrey thwarted Foxley.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 20th minute when Olufemi cut the ball back from the right and Church slammed it home.

Foxley was again denied by Tolfrey before, at the other end, Great Evans had a K’s goal disallowed for a foul in the build-up.

Donell Thomas was unable to hit the target from a tight angle for the Blues before Foxley was once again prevented from scoring by shot-stopper Tolfrey.

Stortford went further ahead just before the hour mark when Johnson’s cross from the left was headed in by skipper Henshaw.

Foxley was, yet again, denied a goal, but this time it was by a defender’s raised arm and the referee pointed to the spot with Olufemi sending Tolfrey the wrong way.

Olufemi notched again from 12 yards after Ollie Peters, who had been perfectly found by Henshaw, was brought down in the box by Dwight Pascal with 13 minutes remaining.

Iker Noguera Leon went close to scoring a consolation for the K’s when his curling right-footed effort went wide of the target.
