Bishop's Stortford fans will get the chance to cheer on their side against a Sky Bet League Two club when they host a Colchester United XI in a friendly.

Blues manager Steve Smith has added the game to his team's pre-season schedule on Tuesday August 9.

Colchester, who will already have played two league games by then, will be bringing a squad to the R&D Advisors UK Stadium on the same night their first team are in Carabao Cup action at Ipswich Town.

Stortford, who are due to host Grays Athletic tomorrow night (Tuesday July 26), have also arranged a home match with Harlow Town on Tuesday August 2.

But next up for Smith's men is a home contest against Vanarama National League North new boys Peterborough Sports on Saturday (July 30).

The Turbines, who are managed by Jimmy Dean, were promoted last season via the Southern League, Premier Division Central play-offs.

"It should be a really good game and another good test for us," said Smith. "Jimmy's got a good bunch of lads there."

Smith, whose side's pre-season so far has featured victories over Takeley and Brentwood Town as well as a defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge, is more than pleased with his squad, but is not ruling out another move in the transfer market.

"If someone's available that will make us stronger then I might look at it, but at the moment I think we're okay," he said.

"One area we might be lacking in at the moment is the final third, but I'm not looking to bring anyone in."
