Real Stortford under-18 Stars beat Chase Side to claim Mid-Herts League Cup

By Michael Vaughton

Tolu Osiyemi and Jack Booker scored late on as Real Stortford under-18 Stars saw off spirited Chase Side 2-0 to win the Mid-Herts League Cup.

The underdogs raised their game hugely for the final, but Stars were able to triumph and add the second piece of silverware in their hunt for a treble.

In an incident-packed first few minutes, Stars had a close-range free kick, Brad Taylor hit the post and Joel Gubb went down after a heavy clash but recovered to put in a commanding performance.

Matt Kemp had several half chances, before Will Skingley made a fine save at the other end as Chase Side ended the first period strongly.

With a switch to a 4-4-2 at half time providing better balance, Stars went close through Taylor, Kemp and Osiyemi.

As the match moved into the final quarter, Osiyemi made the breakthrough by timing his run to latch onto a ball down the middle and coolly slotting in.

Chase Side always looked dangerous on the break, but Booker fired in an absolute screamer from an estimated 32 yards in injury time to seal the deal.

Stars battled with total commitment throughout and Aaron Bonney in particular did not put a foot wrong to be named man of the match.
