Brad Burr signs for Bishop's Stortford from Brentwood

By Michael Vaughton

Having taken part in some "tasty" battles with Bishop's Stortford over the years, Brad Burr cannot wait to get stuck in for his new side.

The 26-year-old fly-half, who can also operate in the centres and at full-back, has joined from London & SE Premier side Brentwood.

That is a jump of two divisions, but Burr has played at National League level before during his time with Southend, where he first caught the eye of Stortford's director of rugby Andy Long.

And Burr, who is based in Brentwood and runs his own recruitment firm, is relishing the prospect of challenging himself in National League 1 as his new club aim to build on seventh- and ninth-place finishes.

"I'm looking forward to it massively," said Burr, who is sponsored by DAVLAV. "I played against Stortford quite a few times for Southend and they were always good games and quite tasty. They were always a good bunch of blokes.

"I played at a similar level for seven years with Southend, so I've got the experience.

"Fly-half has been my main position for quite a few years now, but I can play inside centre, outside centre - pretty much anywhere apart from the wing.

"It's always nice as a player to have some big forwards in front of you to set things up and then you can put the backs in space.

"I know quite a few of the lads already from age-group rugby. It's a nice solid squad at Stortford with everyone buying into it."
