Jamie Brooks and Henry Carr score as Bishop’s Stortford draw 2-2 with Cambridge South in East Men’s Hockey League




Bishop’s Stortford found a couple of equalisers to draw 2-2 at home to Cambridge South in the East Men’s Hockey League, Premier Division on Saturday (November 1).

Jamie Brooks and Henry Carr were the players on target for the hosts as the evenly-matched encounter ended all square.

The second team narrowly lost 2-1 at their Hertford counterparts in Division 2SW.

Richard Turner netted for the visitors, but the hosts’ clinical finishing from short corners proved the difference.

The third team made it six wins out of six by triumphing 4-2 at home to Vauxhall in 3SW.

Gregg Pettit and Harry Leonard both bagged braces as their side maintained their 100% record with an assured attacking display.

The fourth team suffered a 3-2 away defeat against Luton Town II in 4SW despite periods of dominance and sustained attacking pressure.

In the same division, the fifth team lost both matches in a weekend double header.

Will Fox and Adrian Smith netted in a 7-2 defeat to Blueharts V before Collin Sharp’s double and Jeevan Basra’s effort could not prevent them going down 4-3 to Stevenage II.

The sixth team conceded with three minutes remaining as they lost 2-1 at Hertford VI in 6SW.

Henry Lowe brought the visitors level early in the second half and his side were then thwarted by some outstanding goalkeeping before the hosts converted a late short corner.

In the East Women’s League, Premier Division, Sally Powell equalised to earn the first team a 1-1 draw at St Albans II.

Energised by falling behind, the visitors increased their attacking efforts and drew level when Powell finished confidently from Daisy Fox’s quick pass.

Anna Sydes got both goals as the second team held unbeaten Blueharts to a 2-2 draw at home in 1S.

The player of the match put her side ahead with a deft deflection and, after the visitors had gone ahead, equalised from Liz Egan-Evans’ cross.

The third team saw a 3-2 half-time advantage turn into a 5-4 home defeat against Blueharts II in 2SW.

Zoe Barford’s double was added to by Jemima Tasker and Scout Neville as their strong attacking performance went unrewarded.

Meghan Maybanks scored from a rebound to earn the fourth team a 3-3 draw at Hertford II in 3SW.

Lois Wright and Grace Gladen were also on target while Lydia Taylor was named player of the match.

In the same division, the fifth team beat Welwyn Garden City II 2-1 at home to register their first victory of the season.

Karen Leach got the winner after Christie Ansell’s early opener had been cancelled out while player-of-the-match Nula Boston was excellent in defence.

The sixth team lost 1-0 at Southend & Benfleet II in 3SE.

Midfielder Issie Evans was named player of the match for her tireless energy and creativity, but an equaliser eluded her side.

There was better fortune for the seventh team as Jemima Osmond’s hat-trick helped them triumph 6-2 at Hertford IV in 5SW.

The player of the match’s treble was added to by Megan Laws, who notched twice, and Annie Johnson.

Eileen Adams scored and Izzy Cullinan was player of the match in the eighth team’s 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Potters Bar in 6SW.

In the same division, Lily Dodd earned the player-of-the-match plaudits for her constant attacking threat as the ninth team lost 3-0 at Letchworth V.
