Bishop's Stortford Community Football Club teams win tournaments in Stotfold and St Albans

Bishop's Stortford Community Football Club celebrated a double thanks to great performances from two of their teams.

Under-nine United triumphed in the Stotfold FC Tournament before under-11 United were successful in the Futuresports event in St Albans.

It is always highly competitive in Stotfold, but under-nine United really stepped up to the mark as they struck an incredible 22 goals in the group stage and conceded none.

Evan Castle and Elliot Ayre were particularly lethal in attack, while the defensive combination of Reggie Barker, Ciaran Wilson and goalkeeper Harry Barnes kept the door shut at the back.

Good contributions on the wings from James Matthews and Rocco Girolami helped secure wins in the quarters and semi-finals, before a 2-1 win victory over UH Youth in the final meant captain Max Foster lifted the trophy.

Under-11 United played against at least three teams who compete in higher divisions and finished the group stages in St Albans in a brilliant second out of six, conceding only one goal in five matches.

The defensive line of Finn Paxton, Luca Barnes and Josh Bowler were always in control, ably assisted by Henry Hawkins, who was impressive throughout.

They won on penalties in the semi-finals, with two saves and a goal from goalkeeper Herbie Conquest and brilliant penalties by Teddy Hancock and Olly Miller taking them through, and they got to take on highly-fancied Cuffley FC in the final.

An early goal that came about following good work by Charlie Sacco and pressure and a brilliant finish by Hadley Connolly ensured Stortford skipper Callum Castle raised the silverware.
