Nora Zekeri claimed a hat-trick as newly-formed Bishop’s Stortford Community Football Club under-eight girls Cyans beat Elsenham

Nora Zekeri claimed a hat-trick as newly-formed Bishop’s Stortford Community Football Club under-eight girls Cyans beat Elsenham in their long-awaited first league game.

She struck twice after Chloe McClure had scored an early goal as they built up a commanding lead in the Cambridge Girls’ League contest.

Both teams battled hard after the restart, with Cyans completing the victory as Lottie Crook netted and Zekeri completed her treble.

It was also a big weekend for under-nine Colts, another new BSCFC side who played their first match.

Two goals from Poppy Dittrich helped injury-depleted under-13 girls Azures earn a 3-3 draw at Hitchin Belles in Hertfordshire Girls’ Football Partnership League, Division Seven.

Holly Howell burst through midfield to blast them ahead, but their opponents levelled before half time.

Dittrich slotted Azures back in front and, after Hitchin equalised again, she completed her brace.

Flavia Zonfrilli-Santos and Amelie d’Almeida were resolute under heavy pressure before the hosts restored parity for a third time.

Orran Canny grabbed an equaliser as under-14 United drew 1-1 with Baldock Town in Royston Crow League, Division Two.

They played with lots of energy and deservedly got level when their opponents failed to fully clear a corner.

Joe Far bagged an extra-time winner as under-15 Rangers beat high-flying Birchwood Wanderers 2-1 in the Mid-Herts Rural Minors League Cup.

Rangers dominated the opening period without making a breakthrough and the second half proved to be a more even affair.

Birchwood took the lead with a looping shot that beat Rangers’ outstanding goalkeeper Harry Frans.

Ed Warren equalised with a superb long-range strike and Rangers won it in extra time as Warren’s cross was converted from close range by Far.

It was not to be for under-16 Town in the MHRML Cup, however, as they suffered a cruel 1-0 defeat to higher-level Ware Falcons after extra time.

They matched their opponents, who compete two divisions above, thanks to some impressive defending by the likes of Leo Papaefstratiou and man-of-the-match Dan Hesketh, but a goal in the second period of extra time brought their cup run to an end.

The under-16 girls produced a heroic performance and could have picked up points as they lost 3-2 at Ware.

They started with only nine players, including a stand-in goalkeeper, but took the lead when Poppy Dwyer made no mistake having been found by Amelia Coulson.

Ware equalised before the break and upped their game after the restart, but the back three of Alexis Lui, Phoebe Edmondson and captain Aimee Cole dug in.

It was player-of-the-match Edmondson who turned defence into attack with a great run down the left wing before her cross was fired home by Abi Berry from six yards out.

Ware pushed everyone forward towards the end and the exhausted Stortford players were unable to prevent them scoring twice.
